Matchmaker, Matchmaker, make me a match...

caught my eye
((Zelos actually is planning on doing his job while in camp because it'll get him detailed information on all the ladies in camp and will be providing the following matchmaking sign-up sheet for people. Fill free to fill it in in-character if they'd sign up for it themselves, or out of character if they wouldn't but you want them in on it anyway. ICly these are going into a locked wooden box until he goes through them, so other people can't read what your character wrote.

The way I'm planning on doing this if that every week or so after he has a good pool of people to choose from he'll hook up one pair of people, and focus on making sure the two of them having all the fixings for one good date (though don't be surprised if he sabotages things a little if you're a hot girl who he'd rather keep for himself). I'll email you ahead of time with who he's going to hook you up with, and if there're any problems we can work on picking someone else and one of the characters in the original pair will be matched the next week instead of the original one. Once I've made sure everything's fine OOC he'll hunt you down in game, let you know he's made a match for you (without letting you know who it is until the date post) and provide any help you need to get ready for it. Then the actual date post will be open for however long you need it to be. The main post won't be locked from people wandering by to mock you/coo about how cute you are/whatever, but locks within it if things go well are fine of course.

Also, Zelos is a very perceptive guy under the mask, and can make actual good matches if he wants to. If you want that to happen with your character and someone else, go ahead and drop me a line.

Edit: Since it's been brought up, if you have a character who would go Fuck no when told they're going to be going on a date, just say so and Zelos will conveniently miss seeing them during the time period when he'd normally tell them they have a date coming up, and just spring it on them when it's ready.))

On Zelos and Flirting

  • Jan. 6th, 2007 at 12:57 PM
caught my eye
Just thought I'd throw up a quick word about this.

Zelos flirts with every girl he meets. Every girl. It doesn't matter if they're a five-year-old child, a ninety-year-old granny, a human, an elf, a half-elf, a summon spirit, whatever.

Does he expect you to flirt back (or otherwise react favorably, for that matter)? Well, no. Not at all really. Zelos flirts with every single woman in both worlds (he gets a title for it), and some of them get blushy, some of them get annoyed (though only one really gets angry), and some of them flirt or tease back, but the vast majority? They pretty much totally ignore the flirting. "Hello there, my beloved. ♥" "Oh, Chosen, are you out for a walk today?"

So basically this post is just saying feel free to completely ignore him when he's flirting with your characters if you want. He might occasionally whine about it if they become friends, but it won't really bother him. In fact, he'd actually somewhat prefer that to them responding really well, because it's been pretty ground in to his mind that if a woman acts interested in him she's just after something.

Important Zelos Scenes

footloose and fancy free
Before making Zelos' first post (which will be tomorrow, promise. Before he starts meeting people I just wanted to replay his introduction to remind myself how he acts when he first meets the party, and then I got into the game, and now, uh, I'm actually just putting this up while taking a break from playing to eat. But I'll be done by tomorrow afternoon!) I wanted to make a post with a few of his key relationship scenes in it. At some point in the future I'll put up a few important skits too, but that takes longer because I'll have to go through five billion skits myself to find the ones I want and copy them down.

One thing to remember while reading these scenes, if you've never played the game, is that in most of them he's let his mask drop for Lloyd. You're not actually going to see him being so open in camp often (if at all), especially without Lloyd there. Also, here there be spoilers.

Zelos' Flanoir Scene (sets the game to his ending) )

Zelos' Heimdall Scene (in this scene you meet the person you're getting the ending of before an important fight )

chatty
Age: 22
Birthday: Never revealed, but I threw in July 12th when LJ asked for one, so there you go.
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 150
Eyes: Blue.
Hair: Bright red.

Medical Info: Zelos is pretty much fit as a fiddle. In fact, for most of his life people were pretty obsessed with making sure he stayed fit as a fiddle. For instance, one of his earliest confessions to Lloyd about what his life as Chosen was like (though he laughed it off as a joke when Lloyd reacted with sympathy) is that he always had to eat his meals after they'd gone cold while being tested for poison.
Physical traits: Zelos has a red gem in what looks like a gold setting embedded in his chest just over his collarbone. He can remove it if he wants (and has in the past if a Lloyd gets in and wants to go from the Zelos ending, I just didn't want to retcon it if one gets in and doesn't so we can just say Lloyd gave it back to him after the game if he has), and when he does the skin underneath it looks normal, not like it had a rock in it.

People who can sense such things might notice that he doesn't feel quite human. He's had injections of elven who knows what to be able to use magic, and he also might be partially changed into an angel by the Cruxis Crystal he wears. He has been by the time SPOILERS happen if you take the Kratos game path, which is a point he's already passed now, so it could have happened and he's just hiding it, or it just might never have happened.
What's okay to mention around him: ...Usually I say anything in response to this, but for once I'm going to say that if you want to bring up his emo past please don't go deeply into the details because it's such a big deal to him to reveal it to anybody. But anything else is fair game!

Abilities: Zelos is one of the jack-of-all-trades characters. He's a good, quick, swordsman, but neither the strongest nor the fastest character. He knows decent spells (both offensive and healing), but not the best ones and doesn't have the amount of magical power the mages do. And he knows a wide variety of sword techniques, but not all of them. Depending on how he sets up his Exspheres (magic rocks that give people power but can turn them into monsters if used improperly) he can do things like make himself immune to magical attacks if he keeps running around, instantly throw off a spell if an attack knocks him into the air, or make any girl he talks to feel compelled to give him a gift.
Note for the Psychics: Anyone peeking into his head will notice that what's going on inside doesn't match how he acts on the surface, although he isn't nearly as bad as he was before he met Lloyd. Psychics may notice that he'll always be keeping an eye on which way the winds blowing to see which side he should be cozying up to to come out ahead, but these days he's not going to seriously consider siding with The Director or anyone else who's obviously evil just because he will not risk losing Lloyd's friendship/trust if he ever shows up in camp

His emo past is always pretty close to the surface but I'd rather not spoil that here, so if you ever want your psychic character mentioning it just email me and I'll fill you in on it. You might also notice that he's recovering from spending his life feeling like he had no self-worth. Lloyd's the one who finally made him feel like his life had value.

One final thing you might pick up is that in spite of his devil-may-care mask, what Zelos actually wants is to be able to live his life seriously. (Though I kind've suspect that the fortune teller fortune that tells you this actually means that he wants to live his life sincerely, because that fits Lloyd a lot better and what she was saying was that he wants to live his life the way Lloyd does.)

Almost forgot! You can also sense that the gem in his chest (and any other exspheres he uses) is actually another creature, a lifeless being. If she reads it, she'll feel that it's terribly lonely, and would like to absorb his (or anyone's) soul to ease that loneliness.

Kissing/Hugging: Surprisingly enough, most of the time Zelos actually isn't a hugely touchy person with anyone other than Lloyd, but if any lovely hunny wants to get physical he's not going to complain! And I won't complain if any guys do.
Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc?: Ask first!
Maim/Murder/Death: I'm a mean player who's always fine with people hurting or killing her characters.
Cooking: Zelos doesn't usually cook, and won't offer to, but when he's asked to do it he'll slave over it. And then he'll pretend he just slapped it together without really caring about it if it seems like the person he made it for doesn't like it. He is a decent cook though.

The App

something like happy
Character: Zelos Wilder
Series: Tales of Symphonia
Age: 22
Job: Camp Matchmaker
Canon: Tales of Symphonia isn't the most original game ever to hit a console. In fact, no one could blame you if you spend the first section of the game wondering if you had somehow gotten confused and were actually playing Final Fantasy X. A girl (The Chosen in ToS) and a group of guardians go on a pilgrimage from holy ground to holy ground to save the world from evil. Heavy-handed hints are dropped right from the beginning that things are going to go badly for the girl at the end of the journey, but the cheerful main character, Lloyd, is oblivious to them. Heck, there are even summon monsters sealed into each spot that they stop on the pilgrimage, though The Chosen isn't the one who can use them. But it's eventually revealed that there's another world connected to the one they've been trying to save, and after that... well, the writers still mostly embrace cliches rather than try to break them, but they do it so well that you don't really mind.

Where the game really shines is in its characters, and Zelos is a real gem. He's The Chosen of that other world, and is the complete opposite of the one we'd gotten to know by the time we meet him. Zelos
hates being The Chosen and wants nothing more than to find a way to run away from it.

He hides his true feelings and intentions under the mask of an easy-going blowhard of a playboy. He, literally, flirts with every woman in both worlds, gives everyone he spends much time with pet names, and never seems to take anything seriously. But underneath all that he's always scheming, double or triple-crossing every side in conflicts he's involved in so he can be sure to always come out on top. He never once gave his full loyalty to a side that he didn't think would win in the end, at least not until the game's party wins him over.

Of course, since they're the playable party in an RPG they win in the end anyway, and after that Zelos may or may not go on a journey alone with the main character.

Sample Post:

Hello beauties and buddies of Camp Fuck You Die!

Now I'm used to taking my vacations at this cheesy resort down south, a place that's "camp" by a whole different definition, so maybe I'm missing something about my job. You tell me. Matchmaking: not a normal feature of a place like this, right? Unless of course it's got "Fuck" in its name because it's a camp for swingers. If that's the case than I've gotta say that you guys are ruining some perfectly good fantasies. I mean, call me crazy but I always thought a place like that would be more about swinging and less about hanging out with the walking dead in the middle of a swamp.

Not that I'm saying I won't do the job or anything! If there're any lonely ladies around here, how could I say no? I'm not the sort of man who'd let you beauties down! If you're a hunny looking for love, feel free to find me at any time. As soon as I get myself a door it'll never be closed to you, promise. We'll have dinner, talk about what you're looking for in a man, and I'll make sure you get exactly what you need. Zelos Wilder's here to make all your dreams come true!

As for you guys out there, well, I guess it couldn't hurt to share a tip or two with you. Listen up, because the great Zelos doesn't hand out advice about how to steal babes out from under him very often! Well, how to try I should say.

First lesson: atmosphere. You've got this lake right here, so why don't I see a single one of you taking a pretty little hunny on a romantic stroll around it? Okay, the glow's kind've weird, but just think of it as nature-provided sorta-candlelight. All of the mood, none of the hassle! On the downside, it could do without the hideous monster rising from the depths.

Did I say hideous monster? I meant beautiful woman I think. I'm sorry for any offense, Miss, ah, Shaneequa, and let me just say that that is a lovely name. Very... exotic. Now, it's not my policy to ever leave a lady wanting, but I'm just so busy today that I don't have any time to find out vat, I mean what, you can do with those flippers. Places to go, people to meet, you know how it is. But, listen, I've got a whole camp full of boys looking to learn the ins and outs of love, and I'm sure they'll be happy to satisfy you. Just give me a minute to call them over!

Change of plans, guys! Lesson one: tact. Sometimes it's the only thing standing between you and a fate so horrible I don't even want to think about it. Walk up to the lake and come back unharmed and you pass the assignment! Don't go and you'll spend your life loveless and alone without the great Zelos' help guiding you.

The choice is entirely up to you.
